When Cardinal Lawrence is tasked with leading one of the world’s most secretive and ancient events, selecting a new Pope, he finds himself at the center of a conspiracy that could shake the very foundations of the Catholic Church. This is Carlos Diehz’s first major film appearance. He was an architect until 2020, when his youngest son left home and decided to take online acting classes and go to auditions. Adeyemi is said to be the first African Pope. The Roman Catholic Church has had three African Popes: Victor the First (189-199 AD), Miltiades (also known as Melchiades, 311-314 AD), and Gelasius the First (492-496 AD). It is likely, however, that he is referring to an ethnically African Pope, since those three African-born Popes were all of European ethnic origin. Lawrence: Our faith is a living thing precisely because it walks hand in hand with doubt. If there were only certainty and no doubt, there would be no mystery. And so there is no need for faith. The acting, plot, dialogue and cinematography are perfect throughout, but the warning signs are present early in the film. When the potential candidates talk about being a new liberal progressive church, it makes you wonder where else it will go and boy, will they go. I let the weird shift in tone go but the ending, which I didn’t win' t spoiler, which comes out of a different movie and makes the protagonist go against everything they shot for throughout the movie. It seems a bit of a less expected political thriller about what is a major event in the world as and when it happens, but then it changes like a rollercoaster in the final scenes.
